My Work
CX Operations - UX Milestones Program
Role: Sr Design Program Manager
At AWS, I manage the UX Milestones program, which is the pre-launch design review program which ensures that all major projects are compliant with the AWS design system, follow interaction best practices, are built on established AWS mental models for consoles and products, and contain useful and usable documentation prior to shipping to AWS customers. I lead the operational logistics which service 20-50 project reviews per week, partnering closely with senior design managers and the design system team to provide training and ensure review quality. I also spearhead process improvement and tooling initiatives to expand and scale the program .
Enterprise Systems Renewal - Student Information System
Role: Business Process Lead
The Enterprise Systems Renewal (ESR) program is the largest technology improvement program ever undertaken at UC San Diego, involving a multi-year plan to replace every major core business function platform. The Student Information System (SIS) is the core system of record for all academic functions and business transactions throughout a student’s academic lifecycle.
As Business Process Lead for the SIS replacement team, I was the key strategist guiding a team of up to 12 analysts and 400+ SMEs over the course of 3 years, where we accomplished the following:
Mapped 170+ business processes over 7 different user populations in 6 different schools/disciplines
Tagged 600+ improvement ideas
Generated 150+ benchmarking questions
Recorded 530 requirements
This work is currently being brought forward for the next phase of the project.
Instructional Scheduling Assistant
Roles: UX, Interaction Design, Prototyping, Process Improvement, Technical Project Management, Product Management
This project started in January 2016. It is a custom in-house web application which facilitates the class scheduling process for UC San Diego, serving the needs of the administrators and instructors from 70 different departments.
I served in multiple roles, starting out as UI/UX designer, cycling through requirements gathering/spec refinement, user research, sketching/ideation, wireframing, prototyping, user feedback, and design iterations. I eventually fulfilled the role of Project/Product Manager, responsible for a team of 4 developers and the ultimate success of the product.
Over the course of 3 years, we rolled out 6 major feature sets which resulted in over $615,000 cost savings annually. We won the 2019 California Higher Education Collaborative Focus on Efficiency Award, based on “Improved Performance, Service, and Outcomes”.
Undergraduate Labs Safety Quiz
Roles: UX, Wireframing, Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Project Management
This project was internal to the Division of Biological Sciences, creating a custom web application for a lab safety quiz which students have to take at the beginning of each quarter before they can participate in lab classes. It also contains an administrative interface for the staff who have to monitor the results and manage the students.
The team consisted of myself in dual roles as UX designer and project manager, alongside one full stack developer. I gathered the requirements and built the dynamic wireframes in Balsamiq, which I put through several feedback sessions with stakeholders and usability tests with student users, including accessibility needs.
I worked with the developer to make sure the design and interaction were realized as envisioned and tested. We successfully launched on a very tight timeline before the beginning of Fall classes in 2015. The quiz has been in use since then for upwards of 15,000 students per year.
