Out & About
Whether connecting with friends and colleagues at a meetup, sharing my knowledge and experience at a conference, or hearing about the happenings about town over a beer, I’m always happy to meet new faces and catch up!

2019 California Higher Education Collaborative
Focus on Efficiency Award
My colleagues and I took home this award, based on “Improved Performance, Service, and Outcomes” around a large process improvement project at UCSD. We took an innovative approach, linking together our multiple Lean Six Sigma Black & Green belt projects to tackle the class scheduling process, which involves annually scheduling over 20,000 classes involving 70 departments, and hundreds of staff & faculty.

2nd Place: Judges’ Choice
I collaborated with my colleague, Phillip Faniola, to design a phone app based on the prompt “Poke the Bear”. We had just a few hours to go from ideation to presentation, using Adobe XD to create a dynamic prototype.
We came up with a language learning app that would playfully help people learn the meaning and origins of colloquial American English idioms.
Though we didn’t win the popular vote, we did receive the 2nd place Judges’ Choice award for our thoughtful creativity around the prompt, and our solid execution on the interface.

Community Involvement
UX Speakeasy, SDXD, Designing Women, Design Forward Alliance, CRUX
I started attending UX Speakeasy way back in 2013, followed soon after by SDXD (then SandCHI!), and Designing Women. I even started my own mini-meetup for colleagues at UCSD that I ran from 2013-18, which fostered professional development and community connections.
I love getting to know the San Diego design community and relish the opportunities to learn, grow, connect, and contribute.
